Congratulations to Kurt Noack, the 2015-16 District Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. He is an essential part of the Nixon school community. He volunteers every day for as many as 7 hours. He listens, interacts, and challenges students as they read. He keeps them focused as they take reading counts tests. He plays math games. He is a lunch buddy.
Bring your young child to the Downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library and receive free vision, hearing, dental and developmental screenings. The health screenings are for any child between 6 months & 5 years.
About 750 students with low reading assessment scores from Cedar Rapids Community schools will be invited to attend six weeks of free courses this summer, thanks to funding from a grant announced Thursday.
Nixon students enjoyed our recent PBIS celebration of learning assembly led by our "Zones friends" blue zone (sad, sick, tired), red zone (anger) yellow zone (joyful / hyper / distracted) and green zone (calm, focused, ready to learn).
IA Assessment testing for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be the week of February 29th to March 4th. Please have your student get lots of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and be on time. Your help with this is greatly appreciated! Thank You!
Mrs. Tatum’s third grade class has been studying perimeters over the last week in math. The students in her math class investigated perimeters through a hands-on learning activity. Mrs. Tatum created shapes out of painters tape on the floor, and students had to measure the side lengths and total the perimeter of each of the shapes.
