As part of our mission, Nixon Elementary School is a PBIS school. We have six preschool classes and an AK program in our building.
Nixon Elementary School offers a number of co-curricular activities. Some of these include, before school intramurals Eastern Iowa Arts Academy opportunities in areas of art and music. Besides the District’s gifted and talented program, kindergarten through third grade students have the opportunity to participate in Spanish.
We are proud of our community support. Our active PTA works to provide fun and exciting events for our families and our volunteers support our school on a daily basis. The Nixon community is very supportive of the work that we do at our school. Our PTA offers many positive experiences, including extra-curricular field trip opportunities, funding for special school projects, support for academics, and teaming with our building leadership team to offer reading and math nights/mornings. They also host social events for our families. We have very active Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops that support the mission of our school. Our School + Community Partnership with Lowes provides Lunch Buddies for many students, as well as volunteer readers mentors.
Nixon opened in 1970 and a tree donated by President Nixon was planted to commemorate the event. Nixon earned the Iowa First in the Nation in Education Award in 1986, which acknowledged that student learning is a high priority in the school.
